Just over a week ago, the community came out to Wingfield Park to cheer 30,000 rubber ducks on to victory for homeless pets! For the 6th year in a row, the Nevada Humane Society Duck Race & Festival was a success, raising $110,591 through duck adoptions, sponsorships and festival activities. A big quacking thanks goes out to Petco Foundation, presenting sponsor of the event, and Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion, for generously donating the grand prize.
“We’re so very grateful for the tremendous support of the community,” said Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events for Nevada Humane Society. “The event is always exciting and each year it raises even more awareness for the plight of homeless pets, enabling us to provide lifesaving care and find loving homes for those in need.”
Adopters of the fastest ducks to cross the Truckee River finish line were awarded great prizes. The grand prize was a 2015 Toyota Corolla, with other winners receiving a Vacation Package complete with airfare by JetBlue, a Pampered Pet Package, Dine Around Reno Restaurant Sampler and The Great Reno Balloon Race Experience. The winners are published at .
The fun festival came to life as soon as the gates opened. Families enjoyed food, carnival games, and live, local entertainment. Homeless pets found new homes as Nevada Humane Society adopted out several adorable dogs and cats.
