Winning word: unscathed — 1st place: Jaime Mamuad from Lokelani Intermediate School, (center); 2nd place: Kainoa Engle from Pōmaikaʻi Elementary School, (right); 3rd place: Gabrielle Gamiao from Kīhei Elementary School. The spelling bee took place Feb. 1 at Baldwing High School. Jamie Mamuad and Kainoa Engle will advance to the annual Hawai’i State Spelling Bee. The statwinner from that competition will go on to represent the State of Hawai’i at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
