A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Lake Tahoe Basin until 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory, which covers the cities of Truckee, Markleeville, Incline Village, Tahoe City, Glenbrook, Stateline and South Lake Tahoe early Sunday morning.
Snowfall could reach one to two feet above 7,000 feet, with six to 14 inches possible between 6,500 and 7,000 feet.
Below 6,500 feet one to four inches of accumulation is possible according to the NWS.
Winds will also be gusting between 40 and 80 miles per hour along Sierra ridges.
The main period of snow is expected late Sunday night through early Monday morning.
Road conditions will vary from wet to slushy and snow covered throughout the Tahoe region through Monday night. People are advised to use caution while driving or to stay off roads.
